Manchester City ended the year on a happy note as they occupied the top spot with an 8 point lead after handing Brentford a convincing 1-0 loss at their home on Thursday.

Phil Foden scored the only goal in the 16th minute which proved enough to contain Thomas Frank's infirm side.

With the win, Pep Guardiola's side who have won each of their last 10 EPL games have now achieved a clear lead in the title race. as they way stand ahead of Chelsea who slumped to 2nd spot with an embarrassing draw against Brighton.

Meanwhile, Brentford remains at the 14th position with 20 points from their 18 games in the Premier League table
