Marc Overmars resigns from Ajax after sending 'inappropriate texts to female colleagues'

Marc Overmars who was the director of football affairs for AFC Ajax for the past 10 years quit from his position with immediate effect after he was accused of misconduct.

The Dutch champions alleged that Overmars had sent a series of inappropriate messages to several female colleagues. The former footballer admitted the charges and after discussion with the club's supervisory board and Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar who said that the situation was 'appalling for everybody', Overmars resigned.

In his statement, the former Arsenal and Barca player said that he is ashamed of his doings. 'I suddenly feel enormous pressure, I apologise', said the 48-year-old.

His contract was recently extended until the end of the 2025/26 season. Leen Meijaard, Ajax's supervisory board chairman said that although he is the best football director the club has ever had, unfortunately, he has really gone over the line.
