Lionel Messi will be joining American football club Inter-Miami, the world has known for quite a while now but the star's new home officially confirmed his signing through the 2025 season on Saturday.
In a video captioned, 'Sí, Muchachos', Inter-Miami revealed the Argentinian star donning its famous pink jersey.
The Major League Soccer (MLS) club is all set to host an event on Sunday called, 'The Unveil' for the 36-year-old footballer and he is expected to join the pitch by Friday, the 21st of July.
"I'm very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States," Messi said in a statement.
Speaking about Messi's joining, MLS commissioner Don Garber said, "We are overjoyed that the greatest player in the world chose Inter Miami CF and Major League Soccer, and his decision is a testament to the momentum and energy behind our league and our sport in North America.'
"Lionel Messi is an incomparable talent," elaborated Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson. "What he brings on and off the field will elevate everyone around him."
It's the biggest boost for MLS since English star David Beckham, now a co-owner of Inter Miami, joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007. He launched the MLS Miami squad in 2020 after years of trying to find a stadium site.
