Former Brazil international Dani Alves' trial for alleged sexual assault will begin in Barcelona, Spain on Monday.

The ex-Barca star was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.

Alves has denied any wrongdoing, claiming he had consensual sex with the accuser, but state prosecutors are seeking a nine-year prison sentence.

The 40-year-old, who played 126 times for Brazil, has been held in a pre-trial jail since January 2023 after a bail request was denied, with the Spanish courts considering him a flight risk.

Alves won three Champions League titles and six La Liga crowns in the first of two spells at Barcelona before moving to Juventus in 2016.
