The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has not been shortlisted for the prestigious award for the first time since 2003 when he first broke into the scene with Manchester United.

For the past 20 years, the Portuguese star has been a regular on the list, but after an underwhelming 2023-24 season. Ronaldo missed out on the nomination.

7-time winner Lionel Messi, Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Paris Saint Germain's Kylian Mbappe's name were on the shortlist.

The award will be presented on October 30.
