Chelsea have completed the signing of French striker Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £52 million. The 25-year-old had an impressive record last season in the Bundesliga, scoring 16 goals in 25 games.
Nkunku, who has represented France 10 times, is the first signing made by Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino since taking charge in May. The striker's contract with Chelsea will officially commence on July 1. Prior to his stint with RB Leipzig, Nkunku spent four years at Paris St-Germain, where he secured three Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups.
In the 2021-2022 season, Nkunku's exceptional performances earned him the titles of Bundesliga Player of the Season and German PFA Player of the Season. He contributed significantly to his team's success, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists in the league.
Recently, Nkunku showcased his abilities by scoring in the final of the German Cup, helping Leipzig secure their second consecutive title in the competition. The club finished third in the Bundesliga as well.
While Nkunku made his debut for the French national team last year, he, unfortunately, missed the World Cup campaign due to a leg injury.
