Barcelona crashed out of UEFA Champions League before kicking a ball on Wednesday after Inter Milan thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 early in the day.

This was Barca's second straight season when they were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League after making 17 consecutive knockout appearances.

The day even got worse for the Spanish club as they suffered a 3-0 defeat from Bayern Munich, which cruised to the last 16 round, at the Camp Nou.

Atletico Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen

It was a miserable night for another Spanish club, Atletico Madrid, which played out a 2-2 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen after they missed a stoppage-time penalty. After the defeat, Atletico crashed out of the Champions League as Porto joined Club Brugge in the last 16 with a convincing 4-0 away win to the Belgian side.

Liverpool vs Ajax

Meanwhile, Premier League club Liverpool booked a place in the last 16 round with a 3-0 win over Ajaz Amsterdam. The win ensured that Liverpool will finish in the top-two in Group A.

The group's top team will be decided next week when Liverpool host Napoli, who thrashed Rangers at home 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Tottenham vs Sporting CP

Tottenham kept its hopes alive for the last 16 qualifications with a 1-1 draw against Sporting CP.

Now Antonio Conte's side has to avoid defeat at Olympique de Marseille next week for making it to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
