Brother of Colombia women’s football team player shot dead in nightclub

The younger brother of a Colombian woman footballer was shot dead in a nightclub in Colombia, according to the local police. 

As per local reports, Paulo Andrés Carabalí was killed in the early hours of August 14 in a Cali nightclub, where the police said he worked as a DJ. 

The 23-year-old deceased was the brother of Jorelyn Carabalí, one of Colombia's key players in the South American team's run to the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup.

The team will be returning home after it was defeated 2-1 by England in the quarterfinals. 

The country's football federation said in a statement that welcome-home festivities for the squad's return from Australia will go ahead as scheduled on August 15 despite the incident.

The bereaved footballer thanked her teammtes for their support after the incident but it is not clear whether she will attend the August 15 celebrations or not.
