Lionel Messi was booed on Sunday after the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner sat out Inter Miami's pre-season friendly against Hong Kong XI due to a hamstring strain.

Luis Suarez also failed to take to the pitch because of a knee injury he picked up in Saudi Arabia.

The booing became louder in the final minutes and some disappointed fans also chanted "refund".

Starting without Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami beat a Hong Kong select XI 4-1 in front of 38,323, who paid up to $600, hoping to see Messi in action.
