New York, Aug 25 (AP) Novak Djokovic maintained his impeccable first-round record at the U.S. Open, advancing to 19-0 with a win over Learner Tien. Battling through leg troubles, Djokovic defeated Tien 6-1, 7-6(3), 6-2.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion faced some physical challenges during the match. He was seen bending with his hands on his knees multiple times in the second set and required treatment on his right big toe afterward. Despite losing his serve in the opening game of the third set, Djokovic rallied by winning the next five games, securing his Sunday night victory.

This match marked Djokovic's return to competition since Wimbledon. Although he demonstrated dominance in taking the first set within 24 minutes, the match raised questions about the 38-year-old's stamina and contender status for a fifth title at Flushing Meadows. The second set, which stretched nearly an hour, saw him struggling with fatigue against his much younger opponent, half his age.

"To be quite honest with you, I wish I had Learner Tien's age but that's not possible," Djokovic stated humorously in his post-match interview.

By the time the tiebreaker arrived, Djokovic was visibly exhausted, earning his second time violation and losing a first serve. After Tien capitalized on the second serve to tie the tiebreaker at 3-all, Djokovic powered through to clinch the next four points.

A visit from the trainer followed, addressing discomfort in his lower left leg, though his right foot required attention during a medical timeout.

Feeling rejuvenated in the third set, Djokovic surged forward to record his 75th consecutive first-round victory at a Grand Slam event. (AP) PDS PDS
