New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI): The Indian ODI squad is set to embark on its journey to Australia in two separate batches from the national capital on October 15, influenced by logistics and ticket availability. India is scheduled to contest a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series in Australia.
BCCI sources indicate that one group of players will depart in the morning, while the second batch will likely fly out in the evening, based on the availability of business class tickets for this extensive trip.
Former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with the newly appointed vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, are expected to link up with the rest of the Test squad in New Delhi, just before the departure.
"Virat and Rohit will arrive in the capital either on the day of departure or a day earlier," revealed a well-informed source to PTI.
The team is expected to fly to Perth, where the opening ODI against Australia is slated for October 19.
If the ongoing domestic or international assignments conclude earlier than planned, ODI squad members might receive a brief respite allowing them to visit their homes before reconvening in Delhi.
India is gearing up for a second and final Test against West Indies from October 10-14.
In notable news, Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of the ODI team, replacing Rohit Sharma. Despite conjecture regarding their future in ODIs, both Rohit and Kohli seem determined to remain until the 2027 ODI World Cup, although India will have a limited number of 50-over matches leading to the prestigious event.
Additionally, head coach Gautam Gambhir has extended an invitation for a team dinner at his residence in Rajinder Nagar, aiming to enhance team spirit before this international venture.
