Hamburg, Germany, July 22 (AP) — Israel's goalkeeper Daniel Peretz is set to join Hamburger SV on loan from Bayern Munich for the upcoming season following their promotion to the Bundesliga.
"Daniel has shown significant progress during his time at FC Bayern over the last two years, and we are very pleased with his development," commented Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, on Monday.
"He's equipped with excellent skills and possesses an outstanding character. As a vital member of our goalkeeping squad under Manuel Neuer's leadership, he's always proven reliable. Now, he will gain more experience and a wealth of Bundesliga minutes at Hamburger SV."
This move to Hamburger, however, may not guarantee him immediate regular playtime since the club’s established goalkeeper, Daniel Heuer Fernandes, is a favored figure following his contribution to Hamburg's promotion last season. The 32-year-old Fernandes displayed commendable form with several important saves during a friendly against Austrian side Sturm Graz on Saturday.
At 25, Peretz has made seven appearances for Bayern since joining from Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2023. Despite his talents, it was challenging for him to secure the top spot with Bayern preferring Neuer as their No. 1 choice, and having also signed the 21-year-old Jonas Urbig from Cologne in January.
Peretz has also represented Israel in seven international fixtures. AP SSC SSC
