Virat Kohli reached close to a memorable hundred in his 500th International game after the West Indies put up a much-needed fight to limit India to 288 for four at stumps on day one of the second Test.
Kohli who smashed an unbeaten 87 will go into day two just 14 runs shy of his first hundred in an overseas Test since December 2018. Kohli hit his 30th fifty in the longest format of the game, becoming the only cricketer to do so in the 500th game.
The former Indian captain also surpassed South African great Jaques Kallis to become the fifth leading run-getter in international cricket. While Kallis has 25,534 runs in 519 games, Kohli who will continue to bat on Day 2 of the 2nd Test has accumulated 25,548 runs so far.
