Nathan Lyon, the Australian off-spin maestro, extended a warm congratulatory message to Ravichandran Ashwin for joining the distinguished 500 Test wickets club, a feat that places Ashwin among the pantheon of cricket's greatest bowlers. Lyon, who himself is a member of this elite group, expressed his admiration and respect through a social media post, highlighting the camaraderie and mutual appreciation that transcends their on-field rivalry.
In his message, Lyon remarked, "Hi Ash! Just want to say a massive congratulations on taking 500 Test match wickets. It's been an incredible journey to watch. I have got nothing but respect for the way you have gone about it, and your skill level. It's been amazing to be competitive against you but also learn a few. So, mate, congratulations and plenty more to come." This gesture underscores the respect Lyon has for Ashwin's accomplishments and the journey he has undertaken to reach this milestone.
Ravichandran Ashwin's ascent to cricketing greatness has been nothing short of remarkable, with the off-spinner becoming the second Indian, after Anil Kumble, to secure 500 wickets in Test cricket. This achievement also sees Ashwin being recognized as the 9th bowler globally to reach such a landmark.
The milestone was achieved during a Test match against England, where Ashwin's skillful bowling outfoxed Zak Crawley, leading to a catch by Rajat Patidar. Ashwin's dominance over England is well-documented, with Crawley's wicket elevating his tally to 97 against the Three Lions alone - the highest for an Indian bowler.
Ashwin's journey to 500 wickets, achieved in just his 98th Test match, showcases his incredible skill and consistency, making him the second-fastest bowler to reach this milestone, after Muttiah Muralidaran. Furthermore, Ashwin's efficiency in terms of deliveries bowled places him as the second fastest after Glenn McGrath, highlighting the monumental effort and dedication behind his success.
Nathan Lyon's tribute to Ashwin not only celebrates a significant career achievement but also reflects the deep respect and admiration between two of cricket's most successful spinners.
