Sunil Gavaskar is facing backlash for his comments on the late Shane Warne, who died of a heart attack last week at the age of 52.

During a chat with India Today, Gavaskar was asked to rate Warne among the greatest spinners to have played the game. To which the former India captain said that for him the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were better than Warne. Gavaskar referred to Warne's record in India and said that it was pretty ordinary. 'Because he did not have much success against Indian players who were very good players of spin, I don’t think I would call him the greatest,' he added.

Gavaskar even went on to rank Muralitharan over Warne due to Sri Lanka's greater success against India.

His comments, however, didn't go down well with cricket fans, who slammed the former India captain on social media.
