In a major blow to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of IPL 2024, star opener Devon Conway is set to miss at least the first half of the upcoming season.

The New Zealand batter will undergo surgery on his left thumb which he had injured during the recent T20I series against Australia.

New Zealand Cricket released a statement saying, 'Following several scans and specialist advice, the decision was made to operate on Conway with a likely recovery period of at least eight weeks.'

Chennai take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024 opener on March 22.

Conway turned out to be the main man for CSK at the top of the order last season. He scored 672 runs at an average of over 51.69 in the 2023 season. In 16 matches he played, the Kiwi batter scored 6 half-centuries with a strike-rate of almost 140.
