Ireland's first ODI against Bangladesh being washed out came as a blessing for South Africa as the Proteas sealed the final automatic qualification spot for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

South Africa played its last ODI series in the qualification period that ends this week against the Netherlands and had beaten them 2-0 to move up to eighth in the World Cup Super League.

Ireland had to beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the ODI series in order to pip South Africa and make it to the World Cup.

Bangladesh, who have already qualified, set a target of 247 in the 1st ODI but the game was called off due to rain when Ireland were 65-3 in the 17th over.

However, Ireland can still qualify as two more spots up for grabs. They will now play in a 10-team qualifying tournament in June-July.
