In a major setback for Team India Shivam Mavi looks doubtful for the upcoming Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou.

The pacer suffered an injury a few days ago and has still not recovered. The nature of injury to Mavi is not known. According to a report in the Indian Express, BCCI senior selection committee will pick his replacement in the coming days.

The report further stated that the selectors wanted to send Yash Thakur, who was kept among the standby players, but the Vidarbha pacer has also injured his back. The selection committee is likely to pick Umran Malik as a replacement for Mavi.

Due to strict rules followed by the Indian contingent at the Asian Games village, the Indian team won’t be flying with reserve players. The Indian squad will assemble at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for a two week camp before the tournament begins.

The men’s competition, which will be played in a T20 format, will start from September 28. The second-string Indian team will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
