Mark Boucher has decided to step down as South Africa's head coach after T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

The 45-year-old took the decision in order to pursue “other opportunities in line with his future career and personal objectives”, officials said on Monday. The decision was made public right after Proteas' 3-match test series defeat against England.

Boucher, who was a part of the former South African team as well, was appointed as the head coach in December 2019 and was supposed to be under contract till the end of the 2023 Cricket World Cup in October.

Cricket South Africa appreciated Boucher's contribution to cricket and admitted that Boucher helped the team in getting a new foundation after a number of senior players retired in recent times.
