After trouncing England in the Ashes series and winning an elusive World T20, Australia head coach Justin Langer announced a shock resignation on Saturday.
Langer's management company said in a statement that the resignation was followed by a meeting with Cricket Australia last evening.
Meanwhile, the Australian board has appointed Andrew McDonald as interim head coach.
While explaining the sudden change in the Australia men's cricket team's top job, the board said that Langer was offered a short-term extension to his current contract, including the T20 World Cup title defense later this year.
The statement further read that Langer opted not to accept the contract.
Langer took Australia's coaching job in 2018 after the ball-tampering scandal and curbed the toxic win-at-all-costs culture.
