Following a successful surgery on his lower back, India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has begun his rehab journey at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and remains 'pain free', the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) said on Saturday.
'The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the NCA in Bengaluru from Friday,' BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed in a statement.
Out of action since September 2022, Bumrah missed the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup and it remains to be seen if he will be fit for India's World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in two months' time.
Indian batter Shreyas Iyer, who has been out of action as well, will be operated on his lower back issue next week, Shah added.
'Shreyas Iyer will remain under the surgeon’s care for two weeks and will return to the NCA after that for rehabilitation,' read the statement.
The batter, who had to give IPL 2023 a miss, has also been ruled out of the WTC final owing to the injury.
