For generations, an India-Pakistan cricket game has ranked above every other match.
From World Cup showdowns to bilateral series of the past, a game featuring the two South Asian giants was bound to produce ignite some sparks.
But former India batter Gautam Gambhir believes, the rivalry is fading away.
Speaking on a show, Gambhir observed, 'Pakistan has dominated India a lot of times. Currently, if you see the level of both teams, India is far superior to Pakistan in all three formats. If Pakistan defeats India it's an upset, if India defeats Pakistan, it's very much given.'
Most recently, India registered a thumping victory over Pakistan in Cricket World Cup in October. The neighbours have not played any bilateral series for over a decade.
For Gambhir, another rivalry seems to have taken shape.
'India and Australia, from a cricketing point of view, is a top rivalry. If you ask a cricket fan what is the actual rivalry, they will also say India and Australia.'
The six-time World Champions and India have had some of the most memorable match-ups, including the 2018-19 and the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Series and the CWC Final in November 2023.
