In an exhilarating turn of events at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill etched his name in the annals of cricket history by guiding India to a landmark victory, marking his first triumph as a Test captain. At just 25 years and 301 days, Gill surpassed the legendary Sunil Gavaskar's record, becoming the youngest Indian captain to secure an overseas Test victory.

“This is a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Gill expressed in a BCCI video, hinting at the emotional significance this milestone holds in his burgeoning career. He fondly recalled taking the decisive catch of England's last batter, sealing a record 336-run victory — a first for India at this venue after nine attempts.

With three crucial matches remaining, Gill emphasized the boost this win has given the team. “The momentum is now with us,” he said, following his stellar personal performance, which saw him amass over 400 runs, including a maiden double-century.

Complementing Gill's leadership, the contributions from the entire squad were noteworthy, making the triumph a true team effort. “Everyone stepped up, whether with the ball or bat, showcasing what a champion team is about,” Gill remarked.

Rishabh Pant, India’s vice-captain, echoed Gill's sentiments, noting the achievement's significance in rewriting India's cricketing narrative at Edgbaston. He emphasized the team's commitment to learning from past performances and setting new benchmarks. “Bringing this team together and taking it to a different level is our ultimate goal,” Pant declared.

Together, Gill and Pant reflect a team not just retrospectively cherishing a monumental win, but looking forward to scaling new heights in their cricketing journey.
