New Zealand's veteran cricketer Chris Cairns has taken the first steps after having a spinal stroke that left him paralysed from waist down.

Cairns tweeted a video in which he was seen taking baby steps with support from his trainer and many types of equipment and said it ain't pretty, but it's progress.

The 52-year-old former Kiwi all-rounder suffered a fatal rare heart condition in August and was saved after four open-heart surgeries.

Earlier, Cairns said that he might not able to walk again.

Cairns represented New Zealand in 62 Tests and 215 ODIs between 1989-2006. Currently, he is living at the University of Canberra hospital in a special rehabilitation facility.
