The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a 14-member squad for the opening match of the Rothesay Test Series against India, set to commence on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

Ben Stokes will continue his captaincy role, while Jamie Overton has been recalled to the Test team. This marks Overton's potential return to the format following his debut at the same venue against New Zealand in June 2022. However, Overton's participation is uncertain as he remains under medical evaluation after fracturing his right little finger during the opening One-Day International against the West Indies at Edgbaston last week.

In addition to Overton, seam bowler Brydon Carse, batsman Jacob Bethell, and allrounder Chris Woakes have been recalled. These players were part of England's Test squad for their tour of New Zealand in December.

Unfortunately, allrounder Gus Atkinson was not considered for selection due to a hamstring injury sustained during last month’s one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.

England's series against India consists of five Test matches, with the final encounter scheduled for August 4 at the Kia Oval in London.

England squad
Ben Stokes (c), Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wk), Josh Tongue and Chris Woakes.
