In a rare occurrence, a Big Bash League game was called off on Sunday after umpires deemed the pitch as unsafe.

The match between Renegades and Perth Scorchers was underway, with the Renegades having bowled 6.5 overs when the umpires decided to take a call.

It was observed that the ball had a sharp bounce which in turn threatened the safety of the batters, prompting authorities to forego the game.

The uneven bounce was as a result of rain showers that preceded the game. Water seeped through the covers and also led to a damp patch on the pitch.

Both teams will share the points following the suspension.
