CWG 2022 India Day 6 : Overnight Round-up : Indian lifters continued their impressive show at Commonwealth Games 2022 as India recorded its best-ever tally of 10 medals in Weightlifting. Here is how the overnight results went by.
WEIGHTLIFTING
Lovepreet Singh and Gurdeep Singh bagged a bronze medal each in men's 109kg and 109+ kg categories respectively. While Gurdeep had a combined lift of 390kg, Lovepreet managed 192 kg to conclude with a total of 355 kg.
BOXING
Boxer Ashish Kumar was probably involved in one of the most intense bouts of his life but went down 4-1 against England’s Aaron Bowen following a split decision. Ashish was visibly upset with the decision in the end.
It was heartbreak for Lovlina Borgohain as well as Wales’ Rosie Eccles defeated the Indian boxer in the quarterfinals. Lovlina was leading the bout after the second round but Eccles bounced back to win it by 3-2.
Apart from them, boxers Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Nitu Ganghas (women's 48kg) and Hussam Uddin Mohammed (men's 57kg) won their respective bouts to advance to the semi-finals and assured India of three more medals.
HOCKEY
Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored a brace each as India's men’s hockey team thrashed Canada 8-0 in their pool B match. The Men in Blue claim the top spot in the standings, equal on points with England, but with a superior goal difference.
SWIMMING
India’s Advait Page and Kushagra Rawat finished seventh and eighth in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle swimming final.
SHOT PUT
India's Manpreet Kaur had a disappointing outing as she finished at the bottom of the table in women's shot put with a 15.59meter throw on her third attempt.
