As heartbreaking as this image of an emotional Savita Punia may be, no one can roll back the time to ensure a different result in India's women's hockey semi-final vs Australia at Commonwealth Games 2022. Unless you are the Aussies.

That's exactly what happened when the match went into penalty shootouts after the scoreline ended 1-1 at full-time. The shootout began with a stroke of controversy, as Australia's Malone took the first shot and missed.

However, she was gifted a second attempt because the referee missed starting the eight-second countdown clock on the scoreboard. Malone converted it this time around as Savita's initial save was ruled out. Australia eventually won the shootout 3-0.

This didn't go down well with the Indian fans as the Aussies were booed on the ground. Angry fans then took to Twitter to slam Australia and went on to call them 'cheats' for poor sportsmanship.

However, Malone said after the win that she was only focused on her team and victory at that moment.
