Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 16: In an electrifying match that epitomized high-caliber volleyball, Bengaluru Torpedoes triumphed over Calicut Heroes with scores of 20-18, 20-18, 7-15, 11-15, 15-12 in an RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League encounter on Wednesday.

Shameemudheen of Calicut was honored as Player of the Match for his outstanding defensive performances.

With Indian badminton luminary H.S. Prannoy observing from the stands, the match unfolded as a thrilling spectacle, filled with suspense.

Bengaluru seized the first two sets before Calicut orchestrated a resolute comeback, leading to a decisive fifth set.

However, the Torpedoes showcased superior composure during the critical moments to secure their victory, while Calicut garnered their initial point of the season.

Sethu T.R. spearheaded Bengaluru’s attack from the onset, deftly mixing drop shots with precise serves.

Calicut displayed strong team cohesion which kept them highly competitive.

Nevertheless, a powerful super serve from Sethu clinched the opening set for Bengaluru.

In the second set, Sivanesan provided Calicut with an early advantage through aggressive serving.

Despite this, Jalen Penrose’s sharp plays at the net and Joel Benjamin’s calculated strike through a double block allowed Bengaluru to win another closely contested set.

The Heroes stormed back fiercely in the third set, with Tharusha Chamath and Vikas Maan shifting the momentum in their favor.

Impeccable blocking by Shameemudheen and Santosh S.’s decisive conversion of the super point helped Calicut narrow the gap.

The fourth set mirrored the previous one, with Calicut controlling the pace effectively.

Bengaluru’s service errors disrupted their rhythm, giving Shameem and Tharusha the opportunity to combine effectively, leveling the score.

In the final set, both teams traded points fiercely.

Joel showcased his strength for Bengaluru with powerful mid-court plays, while Tharusha and Shameemudheen kept Calicut’s hopes alive.

Ultimately, it was Jalen Penrose’s explosive spike that tipped the scales in favor of Bengaluru, concluding one of the league’s most thrilling matches to date.
