Australia's former all-rounder Andrew Symonds died in a car accident in Townsville in northeast Australia. He was 46 years old.
According to local media reports, Queensland Police said the accident occurred at Hervey Range, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) from Townsville.
Symonds represented Australia in 26 Tests and scored two centuries, but he was better known as a limited-overs specialist. He played 198 one-day internationals for Australia and scored 5088 runs, including 30 fifties and six hundreds. He played a significant role during Australia's two back-to-back World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007.
He took retirement from international cricket in 2009 and became a popular commentator for cricket broadcasters after his playing days.
He was described as a cult hero during the peak of his international playing career and one of the most skilled allrounders in the cricketing world.
