Soren's first decision: Drops sedition cases on tribals

In his first decision hours after being sworn-in as Jharkhand chief minister, Hemant Soren has announced dropping of all cases against tribals in connection with the Pathalgadi movement of 2017. The previous BJP govt had made chnges to the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act and the Santhal Paragana Tenancy Act which protected land rights of the tribals. Sedition cases were filed against tribals after massive protests against the Raghubar Das govt. The Pathalgadi movement had become a major issue in the just concluded Jharkhand Assembly elections.
