Equity benchmarks ended in the red on Wednesday led by banking and financial stocks.
The Sensex ended 171 points down at 38,193 and the Nifty fell 0.35% to close at 11,278.
SBI, GAIL, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, IOC were the top Nifty losers.
The rupee rebounded by 5 paise and settled at 73.55 against the US dollar.
