Senior leader PC Chacko, who resigned from Congress on March 10, joined the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday.

Chacko made the announcement in a press conference in Delhi where CPI(M) chief Sitaram Yechury was also present. Chacko said NCP is a partner of the CPI (M)-led LDF in the southern state and he would work for the victory of the Left candidates in the April 6 Assembly polls

PC Chacko quit the Congres party after being a part of it for decades, citing factionalism. His resignation rendered a blow to the Congress party as it came just ahead of the Kerala Assembly election.
