The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the transfer custody of gangster turned politician Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab’s Ropar jail to Uttar Pradesh’s Banda jail.

Two petitions had been filed in the apex court, one filed by the UP government seeking Ansari’s transfer and another by Ansari himself to be transferred to Delhi. Punjab government has opposed the transfer made by UP and sought its dismissal.

Ansari was booked for extortion and criminal intimidation on the complaint of CEO of Homeland Group engaged in real estate business in Punjab and Delhi. Ansari has also been named as a key conspirator in BJP MLA Krishnanand’s murder case in 2005.
