Today, what is known as the Sahara desert, was once home to some of the world's largest sea creatures, reveals a new study published in the Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History. Scientists reconstructed extinct species using fossils found in the ancient Trans-Saharan Seaway. The seaway covered 3,000 sq-km of the desert. Five-foot long Catfish, 40-foot-long sea snakes and a particular type of bony fish, were some of the creatures that lived here.
