Assam's 200- year-old tea industry might be facing trouble, but a new record provides new hope. A rare variety of handmade tea from Dibrugarh's Manohari Tea Estate was auctioned for a whopping ₹50,000 for a kg on Tuesday at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, perhaps the highest price a tea variety has fetched in a public tea auction. Marketed as Manohari Gold Tea, the rare variety is made from small buds, unlike other tea made from tea leaves, and has been developed over a course of 5 years. The same variety was auctioned last year for ₹39,0001 for a kg.
