Rafael Nadal withdraws from rest of the 2021 tennis season, here's why

After pulling out of the Cincinnati tournament, Rafael Nadal on Friday that he will not be competing for the rest of the 2021 tennis season, including the upcoming US Open starting August 30.

In a statement, the 20-time Grand slam champion said that he had been suffering a lot more than he should with his foot for a year and need to take some time off. Nadal, who missed this year's Wimbledon and the Olympics, added that it was an injury that he had since 2005 and it was time to make decisions and seek a slightly different type of treatment to find a solution to this problem.

Lastly, the Spaniard promised his fans that he will work hard to try and continue enjoying the sport for a while longer. 35-year-old Nadal last played in Washington in the first week of August, winning his match against Jack Sock but lost to Lloyd Harris. He was bothered by the foot there as well.
