Private hospitals can no longer buy Covid vaccines directly from the manufacturers. The Centre has made it mandatory for private hospitals to route their vaccine order through CoWin portal.

The government also imposed a cap on the number of Covid vaccine doses a private hospital can order for a given month. The govt said that the "maximum limit" is to balance limited supply and prevent wastage.

The new guidelines come into effect from July 1.

According to the new rules for procurement, a private hospital will be able to order double the average daily consumption of vaccine doses in any seven-day period in the previous month.
