Pregnant women in India can now get vaccinated against Covid, the Health Ministry announced on Friday. They can either register on CoWIN or do a walk-in registration at the nearest Covid vaccination centre to get themselves inoculated
A statement issued by the ministry said studies have shown that Covid infection during pregnancy may result in rapid deterioration of health of pregnant women and they are at an increased risk of severe diseases and it might affect foetus too.
India's vaccination drive was expanded to include pregnant women on the recommendations of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.
Earlier, Niti Aayog member Dr VK Paul had said that vaccines - Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V and Moderna - which were approved by the Centre, are safe for both lactating mothers and pregnant women.
