Police: one militant killed, another escaped after attack on a patrol party

A militant was killed in an encounter that took place after a police patrol was attacked in Srinagar. Another militant managed to escaped, the police have said. 

Kashmir police say they have identified the killed militant as Aqib Bashir from Shopian and that he was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. 

They have recovered arms and ammunition from the militants. 

The attack on the police patrol comes amid a rise in killing of civilians by militants in Kashmir. 

On Thursday, a principal and a teacher were killed inside a govt school in Srinagar. 

On Tuesday, 3 civilians including ML Bindroo, a well-know chemist in Sringar, were killed by militants associated with The Resistance Front.
