Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed August 5, the day when Article 370 that granted autonomy to former state of Jammu and Kashmir was abrogated two years ago, as a historic day.

The official Twitter account of Prime Minister's personal website said August 5 was the day when the first big step towards a 'New Jammu & Kashmir' was taken.

People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, a coalition of major political parties of J&K meanwhile has called the promise of 'Naya Kashmir' a hoax and a joke. They said that people have now started to question the futility of the move. The alliance held meetings on Wednesday and Thursday to mark the scrapping of Article 370, 35A and bifurcation of J&K into two union territories in August 2019.
