The cramped and dingy liquor vends with people falling over one another to buy booze will soon be a thing past in Delhi. The Delhi govt has put out a new liquor policy that seeks to replace liquor vends with spacious, air-conditioned stores across the city with walk-in facility for customers.
"Every vend shall provide a walk-in experience and will be designed accordingly. Customers will not be allowed to crowd outside a vend or on the pavement and buy through the counter," states the new policy.
There's more to cheer. The reforms will also allow bars in hotels, restaurants and clubs to operate till 3am.
The new policy has also envisaged five super premium retail vends that will have a minimum carpet area of 2,500 Sq.Ft.
The super premium vends can sell products only above ₹200 MRP for beer and above ₹1,000 retail price for all other spirits, including but not limited to Whiskey, Gin, Vodka, Brandy etc.
On the flip side, the new liquor policy made public by Delhi government makes no mention about reducing the legal drinking age from 25 years to 21 years, which was highly anticipated
