Most of us tend to associate Sanskrit with lofty, religious and dramatic works. But the ancient and beautiful language also holds plenty of humour, with lines that will make you chuckle even today. Writer AND Haskar puts together an Anthology of Humorous Sanskrit Verses that focuses on 200 verse translations of the Hasya Rasa, crafted more than 500 years ago. Haksar's translations are full of wit, earthy humour and cynical satire. And Abhishek Avtans, a linguistics scholar and Lecturer at Leiden University in the Netherlands, shares some humorous verses.
