At a time when India is aiming to cut emission intensity of its GDP by 45% by 2030, the country is also gearing up for the Deocha-Pachami coal mine in West Bengal's Birbhum. It could be the world's second largest coal mine once fully operational. However, a small environmental organisation, consisting of indigenous and Dalit people, is resisting the project, citing its perilous impact on the climate and violation of land rights of tribals.
