While India has started preparing for a Covid vaccine rollout, New Delhi is reportedly waiting for the UK govt nod to Oxford vaccine. News agency PTI has reported that Britain is likely to clear the Oxford-AstraZeneca shot in the coming week. Once the UK drug regulator gives its approval, the expert committee on Covid-19 at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation will study the vaccine trials data to decide on emergency use approval. The process of granting emergency use approval for Bharat Biotech's 'Covaxin" may take time as its phase 3 trials are still underway, while Pfizer is yet to make a presentation. "Going by this, Oxford vaccine 'Covishield' is likely to be the first to be rolled out in India," report said quoting sources.
