Over 90 countries issue joint statement on evacuation assurances given by Taliban

Over 90 countries, including the U.S. and major European countries, issued a joint statement on assurances given by the Taliban that it will allow all foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorisation to leave Afghanistan in a "safe and orderly manner" after the August 31 withdrawal deadline set by US President Joe Biden.

In a joint statement, the countries said that they “have received assurances from the Taliban that all foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorisation from our countries will be allowed to proceed in a safe and orderly manner to points of departure and travel outside the country”.

Among the countries that signed the statement include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom.

The joint statement comes a day after the deputy director of the Taliban's Political Office announced that Afghan citizens intending to move out of the country would be allowed to do so in a "dignified manner".
