Football clubs worldwide have spent a whopping $48.5 billion on transfer fees from 2011 to 2020, revealed research conducted by the world governing body FIFA. As per the research, the Premier League clubs are the biggest spenders, and 12 out of the 30 biggest spending clubs were found to be English. Manchester City tops the list, followed by Chelsea, Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid. The list includes EPL's big six. Southampton that ranks 21st in the overall table has more spending than Borussia Dortmund, which is one of the top 5 teams of Bundesliga.
The report is based on Transfer Matching System that the organization made mandatory for all the clubs in October 2010. The report also shows that at least 15,128 transfers involved Brazilian players. Neymar still remains the most expensive player, he was sold for over $200 billion. The report also revealed that Argentine footballer Angel di Maria is the only player who was involved in 2 transfers worth $100 billion. A total of 14 such deals took place in the last 10 years.
