A New York City-based firm Mind Medicine is embarking on the world's first clinical trial testing a combination of two psychedelic drugs, LSD and MDMA, to treat mental health conditions.

Sometimes referred to as Acid, Ecstacy or Molly, both LSD and MDMA are schedule 1 party drugs known for hallucinogenic effects. The study, that will begin from January 2021, has enrolled 24 patients and will look at using the drugs tendencies to increase feelings of connection and positivity to help treat disorders like depression, anxiety and PTSD.

The trial will take one year. This is not the first time LSD, that is also dubbed a 'serotonergic hallucinogen' will be tested for mental disorders. Scientists have been testing it since the late 1970s but now researchers are following much more serious and stricter protocols for their research in this field.
