American aerospace and defence technology company Northrop Grumman has named its next space station resupply ship 'S.S Kalpana Chawla' in honour of the first woman of Indian origin to go to space, Dr Kalpana Chawla.
As a part of the company's tradition of naming every Cygnus after an individual, the NG-14 Cygnus has been named after the former astronaut who scripted history at NASA in 2003.
The Cygnus spacecraft, which will be launched into orbit from Virginia Space’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Wallops Island on the 29th of September, will deliver 3629 kilos of cargo to the space station.
