Militaries of South Korea and Japan have stated that North Korea has fired unidentified projectiles into the Sea of Japan. More details were not provided.
Seoul's joint chiefs of staff said in a statement that the "unidentified projectile" was launched into the Sea of Japan, known as the East Sea in Korea.
This launch comes after Pyongyang fired two short-range, non-ballistic missiles in a westerly direction towards China at the weekend.
Since 2011, Kim Jong Un has launched more than 100 missiles and conducted four nuclear weapons tests, which is more than what his father, Kim Jong Il, and grandfather, Kim Il Sung, launched over a period of 27 years.
